Convert filename to tag?
Last modified: 2013-02-16 15:10:48 GMT
My main player is a walkman and it prefers tags to filenames is there any way to configure the tagging extension to convert the custom sync file name to the title field of a tag? Or is there a way to have all meta data stripped from the files so that the player has no choice but to display the file name?
Just found out a very important detail about how my mp3 player works. If a tag is present on the player that beings with something like a # then the player will revert to showing the filename instead. However if the tag is in a format that the player can handle then it will always display that instead. So yeah either removing all metadata upon sync or removing any wildcards like # in tags by having the filename converted to tags would be my best bet.
Or option 3 have the extension be a little bit more configurable so that we can tell it to avoid certain characters.
Maybe we can improve one of our tagging extensions to fix that.
Could you tell us which player you are using? I don't know why all this media players have so much troubles. I used a Meizu SL6 before it dies and had also a lot of problems with the firmware.
What player are you using? Could it be an option to but rockbox an the player:
If this isn't possible or don't help I could see these options for the existing tagging extension:
#1: add a flag in the advanced config settings to remove the tagged title
#2: add an advanced config setting to add some characters (e.g.: #) which will be removed from the title with the tagging extension
The player I'm using is Sony Walkman E-4475. Option one could work. In fact I just tried removing the title from the tag on a podcast on my player and it reverted to displaying the file name. So if you added option one I would be very grateful.
Should the new option only remove the title from the tag or should it remove all tagging information?
This would be much cleaner because maybe otherwise there have to be an option for every possible tagging information (album, genre,..)
So would an option to remove all tagging information solve you problem?
An option to remove all tagging info would definitely solve the problem for me. The player displays the filename instead of the tagged title if the title field is blank. So since I can set the custom file name to pretty much anything i could think of there is no need to have the tag there for me.
Patch merged: http://gpodder.org/commit/33bdbe07
The new option is now in the git version.
If you use the git version you have to enable the tagging extension in the settings and in the advanced settings you have to activate the tagging.always_remove_tags setting.
Thank you so much. Just waiting for the sync to start working again so i can use the git version again. Then it would be almost perfect
